Daragh Bolton began training in martial arts in 1989 and entered the security industry in 1993—before many of P3 Defence's learners were even born. Over the next three decades, he developed and delivered multiple training programmes, established full-time martial arts centres in Ireland, and pursued the evolving field of reality-based self-defence. Determined to learn from the very best, he sought out some of the world's most respected and forward-thinking instructors, continuously refining his understanding of personal protection, human behaviour, and violence prevention.
As his career progressed, Daragh expanded into corporate, aviation, and healthcare security, combining his practical experience with the everyday risks faced by professionals across a wide range of environments. He became a security management lecturer and instructor, while continuing to develop his personal safety and self-defence programmes.
By this stage, his training had become a fixture in more than 70 Irish secondary schools through Transition Year programmes. What began as a two-hour personal safety lecture consistently became one of the most anticipated sessions of the academic year. Students engaged deeply with the material, while teachers regularly attended alongside them—often returning year after year and requesting additional resources to share with family members and colleagues.
Then came a realisation.
For every student sitting in those classrooms, there were thousands more who would never have access to the same information. The limitation was not the value of the knowledge—it was the size of the room.
That insight set Daragh on a new path: creating an online personal protection education system capable of reaching anyone, anywhere.
The Creation of P3 Defence
Drawing on his experience across security, emergency response, crisis management, and education, Daragh envisioned a different way of teaching personal safety. Rather than relying solely on facts, theories, or checklists, he wanted learners to experience realistic scenarios and the consequences that follow decisions made under pressure.
The result was P3 Defence—an immersive, scenario-based learning platform designed to place learners inside the incident rather than simply teaching them about it.
At the heart of the platform is the P3 Consequence Learning Model, a framework developed from a simple observation: knowledge alone rarely changes behaviour. Under stress, people do not rise to the level of information they possess; they fall back on what they have mentally rehearsed and experienced.
A person who has witnessed a consequence unfold—who has followed the decisions, mistakes, and outcomes within a realistic scenario—is far more likely to recognise those same warning signs in real life. A person who has merely read about them often will not.
The core framework of P3 Defence is Predict Prevent Protect, which reflects far more than a slogan. It is the operational philosophy behind every course delivered through the platform.
Every dangerous situation presents three opportunities for intervention:
Predict – identify the warning signs and emerging risks.
Prevent – take action to avoid escalation before a crisis develops.
Protect – respond effectively when prevention is no longer possible.
The P3 methodology teaches learners how to recognise and use all three.
Why P3 Defence Exists
The platform exists because the lessons Daragh spent more than 30 years delivering one classroom, one training hall, and one audience at a time should not be limited by geography or circumstance.
The knowledge that helps someone recognise danger, avoid becoming a victim, or make a better decision in a critical moment should be accessible to everyone who needs it.
A parent.
A student who just moved from home.
A retail worker dealing with aggressive customers.
A healthcare professional finishing a late shift.
A man facing aggression in a bar or a road rage incident.
A woman walking home at midnight.
The room should never be the limiting factor.
P3 Defence was built to ensure it isn't.

What our students say about us
Why P3 Exists.
Three things that are true simultaneously — and the platform that addresses all of them.

1
Most safety training is passive. Passive training does not change behaviour under pressure
2
Practitioner-grade safety knowledge has always been locked behind the room it was delivered in.
3
Workplace violence prevention is becoming an important part of good governance, employee wellbeing, and organisational resilience.
How we Teach.
A scenario-based training delivery system
to 'immerse' the learner in the topic.
